We are the Rejigged Ceilidh Band of Kent. The band always plays as a 5-piece Ceilidh band plus a caller. We serve the whole of Kent as a truly Kent based Ceilidh Band, whose members both work and live within the boundaries of Kent.
Each member has been playing for Barn Dances and Ceilidh in excess of 10 years and have thus developed superb musical skills along with a truly ‘fun’ element to the calling. Every dance is walked through carefully to cater for both the novice and the experienced dancers alike.
Chris has been playing the accordion since the age of three! He has played at the renowned festivals of Eastbourne and Broadstairs and called ceilidhs at Broadstairs. He has also played and called ceilidhs at the major venues of Cecil Sharp House, Battersea Town Hall and Hammersmith Town Hall, all of which were for the London Ceilidh Club. He plays midi accordion, piano, banjo and bodhran. He both arranges and composes his own music in the Celtic style.
Alan started playing folk music at school under the guidance of music teacher John Brock, the highly acclaimed leader of The Weston Country Dance Band. Alan played in various bands in the West Country prior to moving to Kent. Together with Chris he was a founding member of three other bands in the Kent area. As well as playing with Rejigged he also plays in a duo with Sue. His main instrument is the flute but the tenor sax does make the occasional guest appearance. Alan has played at a number of well-known festivals including Sidmouth, Eastbourne and Broadstairs.
Sue taught herself to play guitar in her twenties and has developed her own style of strumming and fingerpicking. To widen her knowledge of music she had piano and keyboard lessons for a few years. Sue joined in with her brothers’ band, On the Brew, playing rhythm guitar. She later joined the Deal Hoodeners when she took up playing the mandolin. Sue was also a member of folk band Driftwood playing mandolin, guitar and stomp box. She has played with various other bands, including Spinning Jenny’s who specialise in Victorian & Edwardian music halls songs and songs from the First World War. Sue plays in a duo with Alan, and also performs solo. Her main instruments are guitar and mandolin, but Sue also dabbles with a few other instruments.
Jim is a talented guitarist and singer. His origins are in Scotland which is obvious when you hear his rich, clear vocals. He has had a long and varied career in music, entertaining people as a solo artist and with various bands. He has played at festivals and venues both at home and abroad. His roots are clearly in Folk Music but he enjoys all types of music from Blues to 60’s and of course playing music for Barn dances and Ceilidhs.
Philippa decided to learn the accordion while attending the Sidmouth Folk Festival in the 1980’s. She bought a small accordion with only a few keys and buttons. She used to sit on a bench by the sea and other musicians would join her to play easy tunes. Soon she progressed to a larger accordion and formed a band called ‘Shepherds’ Needle’ in Bristol for Barn Dances. Now in Canterbury she plays first accordion with Rejigged Ceilidh Band where she enjoys seeing the dancers having fun dancing to live music.
Clare has had a mixture of folk and classical training from the age of 7, through folk camps and youth orchestras. She is a qualified freelance music teacher. She has enjoyed playing with several orchestras, string quartets and folk bands performing in London and around the UK, Europe, India and Canada. She delights in playing, singing, calling and dancing with folk groups and Morris sides and jamming in the pub.
Great to find a band in Kent that can don some tartan and put on a proper Scottish ceilidh! Rejigged got all guests on the dance floor, many with no prior experience, and all were laughing and having an excellent time from the first minute.
Thank you to everyone at Rejigged for a brilliant 30th birthday barn dance! Everyone loved it!! Loved how you catered for all ages from 4 to 80 years old. Such a fantastic day filled with fun and laughter. Thank you!
Rejigged played for our drama society ceilidh last Saturday and they were brilliant – great sound, fabulous outfits, they asked if we had special requests in advance and were on time and very efficient at setting up and clearing away – always appreciated when you’re on a strict schedule! I’m hoping to repeat the event next year and will certainly be booking them. Thanks Chris and band!
Rejigged played for my wedding last year – a fantastic ceilidh band and lovely people. They introduced us to a variety of fun dances which our guests loved – a big highlight of the day!
Rejigged performed a wonderful Scottish Ceilidh for us in St Mildred’s Church, Tenterden on 11 March 2023. Clare was the caller for the evening. The whole event was an amazing success – I think every one of the 120 people who attended got up to dance at some point. We sang Auld Lang Syne at the end – rounding off a wonderful night. We were raising money for our Transformation Project. Phase 1b is to install new underfloor heating and a limestone floor throughout. Lots of money needed, but ‘Every little helps’ . This Ceilidh raised a good amount of money. Many thanks to all of the Band.
I suspect we’ll have you back for a repeat event!
I always fancied having a Ceilidh for my birthday but wanted the real deal and Rejigged are exactly that! My 60th birthday party had attendees of all ages and musical preferences but that wasn’t a problem as the lively band got them on their feet. Claire was our caller and did an excellent job of taking us through the dances and encouraging people to have a go. There were a few who didn’t or couldn’t participate in dancing yet they all said what a fantastic time they had had and throughly enjoyed watching everyone else. Guests of all ages said what a wonderful evening they had had and friends are considering booking for a party and me, well, I’d do it all again! Thank you Rejigged.
We booked Rejigged for a Ceilidh for my 60th birthday dinner and dance and they were great. They got everyone dancing and we have had lots of positive feedback on their performance. No hesitation in recommending them.
Fantastic communication with Chris. Gave good advice on how to arrange the evening. Flexible with our needs. On the night the band set up and were ready for a great evening of music. The caller was Clare and she was friendly and enthusiastic making sure all could dance. We will be asking them to play again at our next Barn Dance.
I would highly recommend Rejigged Ceilidh Band. The ceilidh for my 30th birthday was excellent. The communication in the run up to the event was excellent. The dances were so much fun. All my guests had a brilliant time.
Rejigged played at our wedding and they were absolutely wonderful!! All our guests had so much fun dancing and the band sounded so good and played such fun music. Chris (the caller) was so kind and accommodating to the people dancing, especially as there were quite a few small children having a go!
The band were fantastic! We had to change our plans at the last minute due to a poor response from the party invitees, so we moved from a hall to our house/garden.
The band were so accommodating, performing for us outside while we all danced on the grass.
Clare was an absolute delight; so enthusiastic and friendly, few could resist her charms when she beckoned them to join us in one of the dances.
Rejigged brought so much enjoyment to us and our guests, and I would have them back in a heartbeat!!
Rejigged played at our 30th wedding anniversary and were excellent. The evening was greatly enjoyed by all with everybody from 8 to 80 having lots of fun! It was fantastic to celebrate our special day with live music from the band and dancing with friends and family back together again after so long. This type of social dance was perfect as we had several small groups of people and individuals who didn’t know many of their fellow guests but our friendly caller managed to get everybody involved. With thanks again to all at Rejigged for a wonderful evening.
